OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
Advance your teaching career with an Ofqual-recognised OTHM diploma — designed to deepen your understanding of pedagogy, curriculum design, and learner engagement while empowering you to deliver high-quality education and training across diverse settings.
Course Overview
The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training offered by MacDough College of Professional Studies is an advanced teaching qualification designed for individuals who are currently teaching, training, or aspire to enter the education sector within the UK.
This is an in-service qualification — meaning learners must have access to a teaching placement to meet the 100-hour teaching practice requirement. Learners are also observed a minimum of 8 times, totalling at least 8 hours of assessed teaching practice.
This qualification equips learners with the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills needed to plan and deliver effective lessons, design schemes of work, set learning objectives, use varied teaching strategies, manage classroom behaviour, and assess learners’ progress.
Learners also have the opportunity to choose optional units that reflect their area of teaching or training specialisation.
Qualification Purpose and Recognition
The qualification is Ofqual-regulated and approved by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).
On successful completion, learners are eligible to progress toward achieving Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status through professional formation with the Society for Education and Training (SET).
The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is recognised as being equivalent to the Certificate in Education (CertEd) and a strong alternative to the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) route.
